Discontinuation [ ] After PhotoDraw 2000 Version 2 was released, Microsoft discontinued the program. Purpose and features [ ] PhotoDraw is a full-featured dual-type (vector and bitmap) graphics software application like, developed for semiprofessional business use. It includes a vast library of clip-art, and a good collection of additional fonts. Its user interface introduced an activity-based approach (manifested in special graphic menus), a concept later evolving into the of modern MS Office and other applications. As positioned mainly as an MS Office family companion and a business graphical solution suite, it was not useful enough for home users, who are more interested in manipulating digital pictures - which are bitmaps - than creating vector graphics.
Microsoft has responded by bundling with, developing, as well as creating for Microsoft Office 2003 to expand on Microsoft Photo Editor. Furthermore, PhotoDraw was also not good enough to challenge Illustrator, the de facto standard for graphics professionals. For professional purposes Microsoft acquired, introduced and developed, a graphics solution suite but it has been also discontinued, leaving MS Office users without any proper illustration tool with capabilities exceeding those of PowerPoint. File Format Support [ ] PhotoDraw's native file format is.MIX.
I have Photodraw 2000 on my computer from several years ago - I copied it onto my newer computer and I use it all the time to add text, borders or effects and to correct old photos or erase backgrounds. I use my photos for various purposes, for teaching and family use, so it's good to be able to do lots of things with the photos in just one simple program I love Photodraw- it has so many uses and is easy to use. I never got the hang of using layers as in paint.net (which I've tried ) and Photoshop (which seems so expensive and complex).
Does anyone else still use Photodraw or am I hanging on to a dinosaur here? Re-sizing images - here's a quick way to re-size your photos so they will open in PhotoDraw (it's an old program from when photos were smaller, and the maximum JPEG size it can manage is 2500pixels). If you have Office 2013, it will no longer include MS Office Picture Manager; you can download a free copy of and install just the MS Office Picture Manager component; it's a good quick program for basic photo editing, including very a useful 'midtone' adjustment as well as the usual contrast, cropping, rotate, red-eye etc.). Somebody I know is really fond of / dependent on PhotoDraw 2000 **version 1.0**. We did manage to get a hold of V2 and use it in Windows 10 but it is missing some features and somehow less stable. He runs PhotoDraw on a dying Windows XP laptop now and installed apps are hard/impossible to migrate. So, does anybody have the install media for version 1 somewhere?
